APME friends,
In May, a dear APME and AP champion and co-worker, Sally Jacobsen, died from a reoccurance of cancer that first hit her six years ago. For many years, she was APME's executive director and guided our group and mission in her unflabble, common-sense, modest and witty style. She was a mentor to many of us in the journalism world.
The APME Association and Foundation have already renamed our International Perspectives award in her honor, and her husband, Patrick Oster, will likely present the award at the October conference in Washington, D.C.
The executive committee and APME Foundation wish to help the Overseas Press Club Foundation further honor Sally by donating to their Sally Jacobsen Scholarship for Third World Journalists endowment fund. OCP's goal is $50,000, which will allow the fund to will be invested for yearly scholarships.
Two APME board members — 2016 President Laura Sellers and 2018 President Jim Simon — have each issued a challenge match for the largest two personal contributions, up to $500. So, with just two more $500-plus donations, we are halfway to our goal.
